Air Rangers - Air Quality Monitoring
Groundwork Richmond to Provide Purple Air Monitors for 20 Richmond ResidentsGroundwork's Air Rangers program enters it's third round of funding for the 2022-2024 cycle, where we will provide Purple Air Sensors at no cost to over 20 residents! Currently, there is a disparity of Purple Air Sensors in marginalized neighborhoods in Richmond compared to more affluent neighborhoods. Check out the Purple Air Map to see for yourself. Groundwork Richmond needs your help in hosting these sensors and expanding the Purple Air Sensor network!
If you are interested in hosting an air monitor in your home all you will need is wifi! Groundwork's Green Team will come out to install the monitor and support you in registering the device! Fill out the interest form here. |

About the Air Rangers Program
The Air Rangers Program was a result of the Community Air Grants Program to provide community-based organizations in California an opportunity to participate in the implementation of AB 617 and the means to acquire logistical and technical assistance to support those participation efforts. The Program aims to foster strong collaborative relationships between communities, air districts, California Air Resource Board, and other stakeholders.
In 2019 Groundwork Richmond launched their Air Rangers I, a Green Team and Green Corps environmental justice and citizen science pilot program. In collaboration with the City of Richmond and Ramboll Engineering Consultancy, and through our Air Rangers program we trained our green corps and green team to install remote air monitors in Richmond’s parks and public facilities, collect air quality data in designated SB 535 disadvantaged communities, and provide residents with real-time air quality information through Ramboll’s Shair map.
